In addition to the increased strength, replacing the factory head bolts with studs also allows you to obtain a more precise torque reading. A conventional bolt gets twisted as it is tightened, so it's reacting to two different forces at the same time. With a stud the force gets applied to the vertical axis, resulting in a more even clamping force. These studs are a must-have for high-horsepower applications and are reusable, unlike the OEM Torque-To-Yield (TTY) bolts which must be replaced after each use. Another benefit of studs is they provide for easier engine assembly and proper alignment of the cylinder heads every time.
